Position Summary

Member of the Software Design and Verification team that designs and implements state-of-the-art avionics systems and products. The candidate will be involved with the redesign and implementation of the software suite that supports Edgewater’s STANAG 7221 communications card.

  • Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Engineering degree


  • Five or more years experience on the design and development of embedded real-time applications with a networking focus
  • Two or more years experience developing software for military or aerospace applications
  • Knowledge and experience building highly reliable embedded products

Required Skill Set

  • C /C++ expertise
  • Specification, design, implementation, and testing of embedded real-time systems
  • Networking protocols
  • Excellent problem solving skills including H/W debugging and integration
  • Must be highly proficient in writing detailed project documentation
  • Experience with writing device drivers

Desired Skill Set

  • Experience with VxWorks
  • Linux Kernel Device Driver and application development experience
  • Windows Device Driver development experience
  • Automated Testing Experience
  • Knowledge of Software Certification (e.g. DO-178B) and associated documentation
  • Experience with Mil-Std-1553B
  • Experience in Java and Eclipse
  • Experience with scripting languages such as TCL or Python

FPGA Developer Ottawa (Intermediate/Senior/Lead)

Edgewater Computer Systems is seeking an experienced FPGA Designer to join our Engineering Staff.

Principal Duties: Design, implement, verify and test FPGA devices and modules.

More experienced candidates will be considered for a team lead role.

You will be a key member of a small team so the ability to write design documents, code, simulate and test in the lab are essential. Candidate must be self motivated and capable of working independently or as a member of a team.

This is a full time position with opportunity to learn and develop.

A Security Clearance and Controlled Goods are mandatory. This implies a minimum of 5 years continuous residency in Canada and the ability to pass a detailed background check.

Experience with the following would be beneficial

  • Aldec/ModelSim simulation software to verify design modules
  • Altera, Microsemi, XIlinx FPGA design flow
  • Familiarity with directed and constrained random test methodologies and UVM
  • Familiarity with coverage driven verification methodologies – code coverage, functional coverage
  • Digital math functional design and implementation in RTL
  • PCI, PCIe, VME or other system buses
